Karen Grubaugh has studied porcelain art since 1991. Her mother, Clara L. Becker, was her teacher until
Alzheimers took her mother's ability to paint. Her mentor is the world known Luster Porcelain Artist, Denice
Van Waardenburg of Melbourne, FL. Karen lives with her husband in the Texas Hill Country town of Boerne
near San Antonio TX. Although Karen often paints in the traditional style taught by her mother, her passion is
wildlife combined with lustres. Lustre art is a special application of an overglaze. Two such applications
never fire the same so all lustre pieces are one-of-a-kind. Although, Karen often uses studies, she prefers
painting from her own photographs whenever possible.
